Talent Show Returns
On Thursday, May 26th the annual Haggerty Talent Show returned to the stage of Russell Youth Center. Our third, fourth, and fifth graders performed a wide variety of talents across 25 acts! There was singing, piano playing, basketball skills, comedy, improv, Taekwondo, tap dancing, gymnastics, and so much more! We had eight helpful/efficient hosts/stage hands that kept us running smoothly. We also had a large crew of staff that helped with rehearsals, props, and the final show. Big thanks to Kerri Favreau, Elise Faucher, Jolene Wright, Jessica Joseph, Katie Nole, Kevin McGonegal, Shelley Irvin, Anthony Reynolds, Carroll Magill, and Lissa Galluccio.
Staff Appreciation Luncheon
Thank You!
On Wednesday June 8th, the Haggerty staff was treated to a wonderful luncheon, hosted by many of our Haggerty caregivers. The food was abundant and delicious! The weather cooperated, and staff could enjoy each others company on the playground. Thank you so much to ALL the caregivers who support our community. Thanks to the caregivers who had some time on that day to also help set-up and clean-up! We felt appreciated and full!
Haggerty Day
On Tuesday, June 14th we celebrated our second annual Haggerty Day! We closed our small portion of Cushing Street - and had the entire school come outside in shifts to work their way through a variety of fun-filled stations! Thanks to the entertaining Jenny the Juggler and Jafar Manselle for his guidance of African drumming for every grade. This year we also had a bouncy obstacle course in the gym - which has gotten rave reviews. Thanks to Bethany Versoy, CPS photographer, for taking some pictures. Friends of Haggerty for funding this amazing community day. And the Haggerty Day team: Amanda Bock, Shelley Irvin, Carroll Magill, Sue Mapel, Tom Materazzo, Anthony Reynolds, and Lissa Galluccio.
Spring Concert Returned
On Friday, June 10th, our annual Spring Concert returned to in-person for the first time in three years! We gathered on the playground on a beautiful morning to hear the voices of our JK - 2nd graders and our Haggerty Chorus. Kindergarten, first, and second grade each sang four pieces of music, many in parts. The Haggerty Chorus sang five songs! It was a joy to hear their lovely voices back in concert. We heard songs from Japan, Appalachia, all around the United States, Israel, Trinidad, Tobago, and The Gambia. Thank you for sharing in our Spring Concert!
The music curriculum at Haggerty is designed around the Kodaly philosophy and method of music education. This method is structured and sequenced, while maintaining artistry in learning traditional folk songs. At Haggerty, grades K-2 have music four times a week with Mx. Irvin and grades 3-4 have music once per week with Dr. Ferrari. A before school chorus elective is offered to all students in grades 3-5 and grade 1, while all 5th graders participate in a twice-weekly instrumental program.
Thank you to music teachers Shelley Irvin and Brendan Ferrari! Lissa will get the video of the concert out to families ASAP.
