Una vez más nuestr@s estudiantes dominaron en la competición final de atletismo para las escuelas intermedias. Estamos super orgullos@s de tod@s ell@s y esperamos seguir como escuela con nuestra excelencia deportiva.

Tenemos el lunes feriado debido a El Día de Juneteenth es la conmemoración más antigua a nivel nacional del fin de la esclavitud en los Estados Unidos y este es el segundo año que Massachusetts celebra oficialmente esta importante fiesta.

Lectura veraniega
Cambiar de un grado al siguiente, especialmente durante estos años sin precedente, es una transición importante para nuestr@s estudiantes. Es crucial continuar leyendo durante los meses de verano para prevenir una pérdida en el nivel de lectura y empezar el siguiente año escolar de manera exitosa. Les pedimos que, por favor, apoyen a la lectura veraniega.

Este verano, estudiantes de JK-4 escogerán dos libros en inglés–uno de ficción y uno de no ficción– durante una visita a la biblioteca de Amigos el jueves, 23 de junio. También recibirán un libro en español. ¡Eso significa que sus hij@s volverán de la escuela el 23 de junio con tres libros de lectura veraniega y una hoja de actividades sugeridas en sus mochilas!

Las maestras de ADLE y ELA de sexto grado visitarán a l@s estudiantes de 5to grado el martes, 21 de junio, para hablarles sobre su lectura veraniega–un libro en inglés y uno en español. Tod@s l@s estudiantes entrando al 6to grado leerán los mismos dos libros. En septiembre, llevarán los dos libros a la escuela para iniciar la primera unidad del año.

Estudiantes del futuro 7mo y 8vo escogerán un texto en inglés la semana del 20 de junio. Tod@s recibirán el libro El soñador de Pam Muñoz Ryan para su lectura veraniega en español.

Estos textos se pueden complementar con otras lecturas de su opción y pueden ser leídas de diferentes maneras. L@s estudiantes pueden leer los libros de forma independiente o con un@ miembr@ de la familia o con un@ amig@. También pueden leer estos libros a sus hij@s. A todos l@s estudiantes les gusta que les lean no importa su edad. ¡Esperamos que aprovechen esta oportunidad para disfrutar de una historia o aprender sobre un tema interesante mientras pasan tiempo con sus hij@s! Transiciones
El cambio de quinto grado a la escuela intermedia también es un gran cambio y uno que requiere mucha responsabilidad por parte de l@s alumn@s. La semana pasada y esta semana l@s estudiantes de quinto grado tuvieron la oportunidad de conocer a Mr. Rodenas y Mrs. Montero, dos profesores de la escuela intermedia. Ellos explicaron cómo funciona la escuela intermedia y l@s estudiantes escucharon las expectativas de sus clases. Además l@s estudiantes tuvieron la oportunidad de escuchar alumn@s de sexto grado acerca de la transición y sus experiencias al principio de sexto grado.

COVID
Esta semana 2 personas de nuestra comunidad han dado positivo en la prueba de COVID. Por favor, sigan manteniendo a su hij@ en casa si él/ella/elle muestra algún síntoma. También, si su hij@ da positivo a Covid en casa o fuera de la escuela, por favor avísenme a mí o a la enfermera Tamara para que podamos tener un registro lo más preciso posible.

Día de salida temprana
Por favor, tengan en cuenta que nuestro día de salida temprana es el 24 de junio y l@s estudiantes saldrán a las 11:30. Por favor, marque esta fecha importante en su calendario.

Dear Amigos Families,

Once again our students dominated in the final middle school track and field competition. We are super proud of all of our participants and look forward to continuing our athletic excellence as a school.

There is no school on Monday due to the celebration of Juneteenth. Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States and this is the second year that Massachusetts officially celebrates this important holiday.

Summer Reading
Moving from one grade to the next, especially during these years of unprecedented schooling, is an important transition for children. It is crucial to continue reading throughout the summer months to prevent summer reading loss and set up students for success as they enter school again in the fall.

This summer, JK-4 students will choose two books in English–a fiction and a non-fiction book– during a library visit on Thursday, June 23rd. They will also receive a book in Spanish. This means that your child/ren will return from school on 6/23 with three summer reading books and an activity sheet in their backpacks!

The 6th grade ADLE and ELA teachers will visit the 5th grade on Tuesday, June 21st to talk about their summer reading expectations–one book in English and one in Spanish. All incoming 6th grade students will read the same two books. In September, they will return the two books to school for the launch of the first reading unit of the year, focused on their summer reading.

Incoming 7th grade students will choose one text from a selection in English the week of 6/20. Incoming 8th graders will choose one text in English in their ELA class. All incoming 7th and 8th graders will receive a copy of El soñador (The Dreamer) by Pam Muñoz Ryan for their summer reading in Spanish.

These texts are meant to complement other summer reading choices and be read in a variety of ways. Students may read the books independently or with a family member or friend. You may also read aloud to your child. All children love to be read to no matter their age! We hope you will take this opportunity to enjoy a story or learn about an interesting topic while spending time with your child.

Transitions
The move from fifth grade to middle school is also a big change and one that requires a lot of responsibility on the part of the students. Last week and this week the fifth grade students had the opportunity to meet Mr. Rodenas and Mrs. Montero, two middle school teachers. They explained how the middle school works and the students heard the expectations of their classes. In addition, students had the opportunity to hear from sixth graders about the transition and their experiences at the beginning of sixth grade.

COVID
2 individuals in our community tested positive for COVID this week. Please continue to keep your child home if he/she/they show any symptoms. Also, if your child tests positive for COVID at home or outside of school, please let me or Nurse Tamara know so we can have as accurate records as possible.

Please note: We have an Early Release Day on June 24 and students will be dismissed at 11:30. Please mark this important date on your calendar.
