From Lauri, the School Nurse
Spring may finally be here! I hope you and your children are spending more time playing outdoors. Warmer weather also means spring allergy season. If your child has a history of seasonal allergies, now is a good time to make sure his or her allergy medication is up to date. Please check with your primary care provider for safe medications for your child. Non-sedating medications for allergies such as Zyrtec (cetirizine) or Claritin (loratidine) may be recommended by your provider and are available over the counter. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) causes drowsiness in most children. Please do not give Benadryl before school, unless specifically prescribed by your child’s doctor. Warmer weather can also mean an increase in cases of lice. Lice are very common in school aged children are not related to cleanliness. Please check your child’s head regularly. Don’t panic if you find lice!! Contact the nurse or your provider for assistance, and please notify the school nurse or your child’s teacher.
