Dear Amigos Parents and Families,
As we approach our final stretch of the school year, I would like to extend my thanks to the FOA, ASC, and to all of the parents for the warm reception that you gave me and all of the Amigos staff last Friday evening! It was so good to see and reminisce with parents whom I have known over the years and to meet up with some of the returning students, many of whom have sibs at the school. All are reminders of the wonderful years that I have spent at Amigos, in a community that has undergone a lot of changes, but continues to work toward building it’s dual language mission in an environment that is safe, respectful, creative, constructive and rigorous for all of our children. Thank you all for being such wonderful parents and for your partnership over the years. I will miss the rewarding experience of seeing the students physically and emotionally grow into young adults, and, in the final ‘episode’ of the Jr – 8th grade experience, see them cross the stage on graduation day! There is so much to be proud of!
On a second note, I’d like to acknowledge the kindness and generosity that parents showed on ‘Teacher Appreciation Day’. This day, a tradition at Amigos, and many schools, acknowledges and celebrates teachers, their contributions and great work with students! This year, a luncheon, organized by Lillian, our Parent Liaison, resulted in the delivery of a number of delicious dishes prepared by parents, as well as desserts and, of course coffee – something that is refused by very few in our school! Once again, you all outdid yourselves and there was enough food to set up a table of leftovers the next day! Thank you parents for your time and support of our amazing staff! We are all so appreciative!
For all the kindnesses, big and small, and for the service that many of the parents (and teachers) have provided this year, I’d like to recognize the long hours that the members of the ASC and the FOA contributed to the Amigos school, as well as Room Parents, FLASHERS and above all, 8th grade families. On behalf of the staff and myself, thanks to all of the hard-working and dedicated parents listed below:
Amigos School Council
Friends of Amigos,
Room Parents
Flashers
Twenty-four (24) parents ran the ‘Ragnar’, an overnight relay race of 200+ miles from Hull to Provincetown this spring, raising over $20,000 dollars, all in support of the Escuela Amigos. ¡¡BRAVO!!
8th Grade Parents (and Students)
8th Grade Parents and students fundraised roughly $14,000. this year to support the 8th Grade ‘Culminating’ Field Trip to New York City. All 25, 8th grade students attended and enjoyed three days of touring and engagement with guides, chaperones and each other, focusing on Latino immigration, heritage, culture, and language.
