Haggerty School-Wide Expected Behaviors
We are kind. We work hard. We are responsible. We respect others and ourselves. These are our four new school-wide expected behaviors! All students have been discussing these expectations in their classrooms and our first Assembly last Friday highlighted them as well. It was wonderful to see students from JK through Grade 5 getting up at the Assembly to demonstrate what these behaviors mean! The students are focused on what it means to - be kind, work hard, be responsible, and be respectful of others and themselves. We already see positive things like walking quietly in the hallways, helping one another solve a problem, putting in effort by using strategies in math, taking care of the playground materials, and being kind to friends. We are so proud of our students and look forward to sharing more about our school-wide expected behaviors with all families at Back to School Night on September 30th (6 to 7:30PM - Childcare is available, please email Lissa).

Welcome Back Updates
We are off to a great start! I am sure you feel the same energy in the building that I do. It's great to see everyone and have the children back in school! Getting the building ready is no small task and I know you’ll join me in a public “THANK YOU” to the custodial crew for their tireless work in getting the building ready and looking so beautiful! Having a clean, safe and orderly school environment is critical for teachers to ensure that students learn. Thanks for Joe and James for their ongoing efforts to keep our building safe and clean! The Haggerty Booth at Danehy Day this past Saturday was an enormous success thanks to the outpouring of help from our generous community! Many parents/caregivers, sent in water, juice, and brownies. Also many folks showed up to work at the stand! Read more >>

Library

Library Corner
Welcome to our library. Please stop in to visit our beautiful space on the top floor of the Haggerty School. I hope that you will find the library schedule and expectations helpful to read over with your child. Find a safe place at home for library books. Remind your child to handle books carefully. We do not charge fines, however we do need you to replace lost or damaged books. Books need to be returned on time in order to borrow more. Read more >>

Weiner Wolf

Literacy Corner
Book Review | Wiener Wolf by Jeff Crosby
Read and Reviewed by Zephyr N. (grade 4)

If you like animal books and happy endings then this is the book for you. The two main characters in this book are Wiener Dog and Granny. This book takes place in the forest. The main problem is that Wiener dog is tired of his life, he needs more action in it… Read more >>

Math

1, 2, 3 Math!
The 4th and 5th grade students all worked together on a math challenge to start the year off. We reminded each other that math is a creative, engaging endeavor that requires collaboration, smart use of math tools, hard work, and a positive mind set. Read more >>

Music
Music Corner
Welcome back to another great school year! There are big changes in the music program at Haggerty this year. The Kodály (KO-die) method is being implemented at Haggerty and follows the proven model from other Cambridge schools: K, 1st and 2nd grades attend music four times a week for 30 minutes. Ms. Irvin-Kent teaches JK-2 at Haggerty this year. Read more >>

Playground

Imagination Abounds
As you know, our playground is currently being renovated. It is coming along, but probably will not be completed until sometime in November. In the interim, our students have been going across the street to the staff parking lot and using their imagination with all the interesting building objects. I will send a link to articles about the genesis of this idea in an upcoming email, and ask your child about the fun they have been having outside!

DISMISSAL NOTES
Dismissal for Our Students Being Picked Up.

As you may have noticed, there is a lot of congestion at the Lawn Street / Playground dismissal area on the first floor. Parents and guardians can help with this by leaving the area as soon as you have gathered up your child.

Often parents might like to chat and connect with other parents, and we ask that you do this on the playground or other outdoor areas in order to lessen congestion in the hallways.

Thank you for contributing to the safe and orderly dismissal of our students!
