Greetings from Julie Craven
Dear RAUC Families,
We look forward to seeing you at Back to School Night this Thursday, September 29 from 6 - 8PM. We will start with pasta and salad in the cafeteria. Please mark your calendars!
We want to make our school community stronger. Please help us create RAUC Core Values by completing a very short parent/guardian survey (5-10 minutes!). We need the voices of our families! Take the Survey >>

I will close by sharing something I overheard as I greeted families and students in front of school. In general, mornings are my favorite time of day. I get to exchange good mornings with lots of smiling folks and I get to see our community in action: parents and guardians hugging their students goodbye, students of all ages eagerly greeting their friends, and middle schoolers reaching out to hold the door for others who need help. Last week I was watched as a father hugged his son and said to him: “Remember your job--listen, learn, lead.” Apparently that message has been repeated every day since kindergarten. That interchange left me thinking about how, in some ways, that is what school is all about, supporting students in listening, learning, and leading. I also thought about those are three actions I can always get better at. What nice reflection to start my day!
Best,
Julie Craven

RAUC Core Values: What are they? How can families help create them?
We want to identify the key ideas we all believe will keep our school a caring community where everyone can get a great education. In other words, we want to identify RAUC’s Core Values. We believe that having core values we all care about makes us feel safer in the community because we know what it stands for. Feeling safe empowers all of us to learn, take risks, and grow together. We want staff, students, and families to help choose these values together because then we share responsibility in staying true to them as individuals and as a community. Each group--staff, students, and families, will come up with their ideas for core values. Then representatives from each group will come together to create RAUC's final core values. Read more >>

English Language Arts (ELA) Curriculum News from Jan Tingle, district ELA Curriculum Coordinator
We are excited to share with you information about a new curriculum that will be implemented this year in ELA classes in grades 6-8. In 2014, English Language Arts entered the CPS Curriculum Review Cycle. A design team composed of teachers and coaches worked together over the course of the last two years and, in the spring of 2016, recommended a curriculum that was designed by EL Education.

Getting a Message to Your Student
RAUC is happy to help you get a message to your student if plans change during the day. Please note that we cannot guarantee that we can deliver the message in time. Schools are busy places and we have to attend to urgent matters as they arise. Note that 2PM to the end of the day is our busiest time. Messages sent before then are most like to be delivered in time. In general we suggest the following:
- As much as possible, make plans with your student before your student leaves in the morning.
- If plans change, call the school as early as possible. We will do our best to get the message to your student.
- Leave a message/text on your student’s phone that they will see when they get their phones from the locker at the end of the day.
