Greetings from Julie Craven
Dear RAUC Families,
Our community was busy last week--in between holidays there was a School Council Meeting, a Coffee with the Head of School, a Families of RAUC meeting, and Picture Day! There are highlights of these events in the newsletter, as well as information about some fun upcoming events. All these activities remind me how it truly takes a village. Teachers, staff, and families are working hard to make our learning community full of opportunities for everyone. Thank you everyone for all you do--it makes a difference!
Have a wonderful week!
Julie Craven

Highlights from FRAUC Meeting
October 13
Speaker Series: Our speaker was Stefanie Haug, LICSW. She has worked with children and the adults who care for them as the counselor of an independent middle school and therapist in private practice. Stefanie spoke about the “tween years”, brain development and their abilities and behaviors at this time in their lives. Stefanie spoke about suggestions for working with middle school students. She emphasized the importance of family meals, talked about the importance of sleep and food, especially when you want to have a conversation with them. The group spoke about the growth mindset and how to speak with your kids and talk to them to encourage a growth mindset.
Business Meeting: The group discussed a range of fundraising plans. Please see minutes online.
Next FRAUC Meeting: Wednesday, Nov. 9th from 6 - 8PM in the RAUC Library.
Topic: How can you support your child academically?
Speaker: Annie Leavitt, Cambridge Public Schools Middle School Network Coordinator
School Council Update
School Council met Tuesday October 11 to look at results from 2015-16 School Climate Survey. The council will continue to dig into survey results at the next meeting, Wednesday, November 9 from 7:30 - 8:15AM, focusing on how the survey results can inform work around RAUC’s 2016-17 School Improvement Plan. All are welcome to attend.

Peabody/RAUC Community Market
On Thursday, October 20th at 3:10PM we will hold the first Community Market at Peabody/RAUC! This market has fresh fruits and vegetables, grains, cereals, eggs, milk, meat, and so much more! The fruits and vegetables are fresh (and often local) and there will be a diverse offering of other staples for your pantry. All the food is donated by Food For Free and is therefore free for those who attend the market. Please stop by and check it out and bring your own bags! We need volunteers to help set up, work the market and clean up. Sign up here or contact Ellen van Bever.
