Message from Julie Craven
Dear RAUC Families,
One delight of my job is to witness the opportunities for creative expression happening regularly at our school. Just this week I watched the 7th grade chorus acappella jam--groups of students performed their own pieces that they had been working on for several weeks. I was as moved by the supportive classroom audience as I was by the talent and creativity of the performers. I witnessed 7th graders enthralled by their NetPals partners demonstrating the creative application of science and technology in their workplaces, helping our students imagine possibilities for their own futures. Creative expressions of understanding were apparent in small but important ways as well. Sixth graders demonstrated understanding of character development through illustrations of three key plot moments from their class book. French students applied their language skills to create captions for drawings celebrating the holiday of St. Valentine. In science, 8th graders showed their understanding of how traits are determined with silly yet genetically accurate stick figures.
Student success in these and all their endeavors is enhanced by a vibrant school-home partnership. Students benefit when school and family are in communication and on the same page. Please be sure to sign up for a spring Learning Partners Conference. Conferences start March 21. Information on dates and sign up can be found in this newsletter. We want to connect with everyone so we can support each of our students in aiming high!
With respect,
Julie Craven

Teachers Learning Together
Staff has read and discussed the final chapter in the book, How to Create A Culture of Achievement in your school and classroom. The focus of this chapter, Best School in the Universe, was to think about how to make school the best place to work, teach, and learn.
As a staff, we reflected on three questions:
- What would make us the best school in the universe?
- What are we already doing that makes us great?
- What else do we need to do to improve?
Teachers acknowledged that there are so many things that Rindge Avenue is doing to make us great. On a daily basis we have committed, passionate educators who care deeply about our students’ success; our students also enjoy coming to school. And, still, there are always ways to improve. At upcoming meetings, staff will use the ideas from this book to continue to think about how we can push ourselves to reach all students’ needs and to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
