forget-me-nots

Greetings from Julie Craven
Dear RAUC Families,

Happy belated May Day! There is a lot going on between now and the end of the year, so please be sure to read through the newsletter and mark your calendars.

Please also note an update to our Learning Community Expectations. One of our core values is to reflect. Students and staff took some time early spring to reflect on how well our expectations connect to our core values.  Overall, we were satisfied. We did make two revisions for expectations that were not in active support of core values. Students may now wear hoods and hats, as long as we can see their lovely faces. And, students are no longer required to lock their electronics in their lockers. The same usage rules and consequences apply--all phones and electronics need to be silenced and away, and if they are out, they will taken to the office. First offenders can pick them up at the end of the day; otherwise, a family member will be contacted to come pick up the device. Please know that the school is not responsible for lost or stolen phones or electronics. If you are concerned, encourage your student to lock the devices in their locker--the school has provided locks and lockers to all students. We announced these changes at an assembly on Friday afternoon and students clearly appreciated that their input had been heard. It was certainly a step in service of unity--strong communities reflect and move forward together.

Have a great week,

Julie Craven, Head of School

Speaker: 6-6:30PM
Business Meeting: 6:30-8PM

Jason Everhart, RAUC teacher, will speak about digital identity and its impact on student performance at RAUC. The presentation will include data collected from eighth graders about their online use and how they perceive its influence on their health and academic success. While online bullying will certainly be a part of the discussion, this presentation will focus less on internet safety and more on what our students are telling us about the importance of their digital lives. The discussion will be interactive and informational, wrapping up with strategies for continuing the discussion at home.
