Greetings from Julie Craven

Dear RAUC Families,

We are already in our second month of school! Time flies. We have been actively building unity with students. My welcome letter described our intentional First Four Days activities. While we returned to our regular schedule the second week of school, students spent Unity Block, last period on Fridays, in advisory to continue to come together. There were reflections, group building activities, and other games. A particular highlight was the 8th grade lip synching contest--students up on stage, putting themselves out there in front of peers and being warmly applauded for their performances. A great way to wrap up the month. With all that is in the news, teachers are working daily to make RAUC feel like a welcoming, safe community.

Unity Block the next five weeks will now be Electives. The goal of electives is to build community by having fun together in cross-grade groups, with teachers you might not normally have. We have a wide range of elective options that includes Parkour, Zentangle, Coding, Board Game Challenges, Step Dancing, RAUC News, Student Government, and Flag Football, to name a few. All students were able to get their first or second elective choice--lists will be out later in the week. At the end of electives, we will use Unity Block for more focused community building in advisory and whole school meetings, then start a new cycle.

Here’s to another great month!

Julie Craven, Head of School

Thank You for a Great Turnout on Back-to-School Night!
We loved connecting with families last Thursday. If you were unable to attend, please be on the lookout for a request from your student’s advisory teacher for the hopes and dreams you have for your student this year. We aim to hear from everyone!

Mt. Monadnock Hike
Tuesday, October 17 | 9AM-4PM (late bus day)
It's time for the annual 8th grade hiking trip to Mt. Monadnock! Every year 8th grade students aim high and attempt an ascent of the 3,166 foot mountain. The goal of the trip is not to be the fastest to the top or even reach the top of the mountain; instead students challenge themselves individually and show unity and compassion by supporting their classmates to achieve the goals they have set for themselves. This trip also provides many opportunities for students and faculty to get to know each other in a non-academic and beautiful setting, continuing to build towards our goal of a united school community. Look for permission slips with details from your 8th grader!

8th Grade DC Trip
Registration packets have been given out. Please look for yours!

What will all 6th graders have learned by the end of Intro to Middle School this Friday?
By the end of last week, all 6th graders had:
–defined the differences between bullying, conflict, and meanness
–discussed bullying and cyberbullying situations
–learned the words "bystander" and "upstander," and discussed ways to be an upstander
–practiced successful peer communication strategies (speak clearly and patiently, ask to repeat if you don't understand, etc.)

By the end of this week, all 6th graders will have:
–logged into Aspen and explored it a little
–bookmarked the 6th grade homework calendar in their Chrome account
–reflected on their hopes and concerns for the rest of 6th grade and written a letter to their June selves
–taken a final assessment and be ready to move on to language classes!
