Greetings from Julie Craven
Dear RAUC Families,
The warmth and strength of the RAUC community has been in evidence these past couple of weeks. As you know, our community is committed to supporting trips that only happen if they are accessible to all. Two recent events provide evidence of the varied ways that so many people contribute to this worthy goal. The Families of RAUC organized a successful Wine and Cheese D.C. Fundraiser that raised over $5000 to support this annual 8th grade trip. Thank you in particular to Deirdre Logan and Adam Berinsky for hosting, as well as to all who organized and participated. The first RAUC dance of the year was also a resounding success, raising another $1000. Huge thanks to the 7th grade families who sponsored the dance--the donations of refreshments, arts and crafts talent, and the time of the volunteer for decorating and cleaning up, all ensured the evening was full of laughter and good spirits. We know that folks give in ways that they can--every contribution supports the community and is deeply appreciated! As a reminder, you can also donate to the DC trip directly on the Families of RAUC webpage.
RAUC Staff also went above and beyond to organize a RAUC-ous Fall Festival that took place after lunch last Friday. It was a gorgeous day for the range of activities students rotated through--a four-way tug-of-war, marshmallow toss, mummy wrap, or pumpkin relay were just some of the fun challenges. RAUC music teachers have also been hard at work preparing their musicians for another community event, the Veterans Day assembly that will be held jointly with the Peabody School on Thursday, November 9.
Our community is also strengthened by our partnership in support your student’s academic success. Please make sure to sign up to meet with your student’s teachers at our fall Learning Partners Conferences. Look for information and a live link in this newsletter.
Yours in unity,
Julie Craven, Head of School

Audition for the RAUC Musical!
Do you want to be a part of the musical this year? Do you love acting and singing? The RAUC Musical is holding auditions on Wednesday, Nov 15th and Thursday, Nov 16th after school. Please sign up for an audition time outside of the music classroom. Students need to learn a short song selection and prepare a monologue. All materials can be found by the sign ups. Hope to see you there! See Ms. Elguindy or Mr. DeWitte with questions.
Urban Legends Trip to CRLS
On Friday, November 3, six 8th graders who are in Urban Legends, an after-school drumming ensemble, are going to CRLS to participate in a drumline class. In addition to the class, students will be given a brief tour of the arts wing of the high school. The goal is to build a relationship with the high school music department in order to ease the transition from middle to high school and to encourage students to continue drumming. The high school drumline teacher, Guillermo Nojechowicz, visited RAUC last year and sat in on one of our rehearsals. He was so impressed with the work and level of their playing, he invited them to join a class and possibly perform with them in the CRLS winter concert. We are looking forward to this exciting opportunity!

Leadership Opportunity for 8th Grade Girls
In partnership with Mayor E. Denise Simmons, YWCA Cambridge invites 8th grade girls in Cambridge to join the Girls Only Leadership Development program (GOLD). GOLD is a free, bi-monthly after school program that celebrates self-love and self-expression, collaboration and GIRL POWER! On Tuesday, October 31st from 9:00-9:15AM, Abby Fasano, an intern with GOLD will be at RAUC to share more information with our 8th graders! As their website states, GOLD believes that every girl is a leader. The program aims to provide a safe space for GOLD girls to determine, practice and develop their own unique leadership skills. A few examples of GOLD workshop themes are navigating relationships, gender stereotypes, race and racism, self-defense, self-awareness and self-expression, networking with women leaders, and much more.
