Greetings from Julie Craven
Dear RAUC Families,
Families celebrate a range of holidays this time of year. May we all find peace and joy in whatever holidays we celebrate in the ways family tradition holds dear. May everyone find time to relax and rejuvenate over the vacation break. A reminder that there is no school Monday, December 25th – Monday, January 1st. We look forward to welcoming students back to school on Tuesday, January 2nd, refreshed and ready to end the semester strong (grades close Jan. 16).
Have a wonderful break!
Julie Craven, Head of School

Participatory Budgeting
On Dec. 7 and 8, 6th and 7th grade students at Rindge Ave. Upper Campus voted in the City of Cambridge's Participatory Budgeting process for the first time. In their social studies classes, they chose proposals to read and "pitch" to their classmates. Students then discussed (often heatedly!) the relative merits of the proposals, and asked questions with the goal of becoming informed voters.
Students were pleased that some of the proposals they were most enthusiastic about, including Critical Resource Kits for the Homeless and Upgrade to Gately Youth Center, were funded! Social studies teachers Gisel Saillant and Beatriz Motto and librarian Sam Musher hope this will become an annual event at RAUC. Learn more about Participatory Budgeting >>

Buy a RAUC T-Shirt or Sweatshirt for the Holidays! Or Just Because!
We have t-shirts for immediate purchase in the office. Just send your student (or come yourself!) with $10. If the size is out of stock, we can take the order for you. Or place an order in the office for a sweatshirt for $35. You can send cash or make out a check to Rindge Student Agency. We make a small profit with each purchase, and all proceeds are supporting student field trips.
Staff vs Students Ultimate Showdown!
This Friday we hold our second annual staff vs students ultimate ball game after lunch. Students will compete in their advisory “color squads.” This is a new way to group ourselves this year, in support of our core value to seek unity. Each grade has six advisories. Each color squad is composed of one advisory per grade so we can get to know each other across grades. We have students sit by squad in assemblies, we walked to and watched the movie, Wonder, by squads, and now students will try to take down the teachers in their squads. While everyone is invited to participate, some choose to just cheer their peers on, which is also awesome. We are aiming to have students in the Step elective and Urban Legends provide some intermission entertainment. Should be a fun way to head into vacation! On Friday, ask your student who won!

Vegetarian Options
Students work to bring more vegetarian options to the cafeteria: The Student Government, an elective at RAUC led by Ms. Motto, is working with the Director of Food Services, Mellissa Honeywood, to bring more hot vegetarian meal options to the RAUC school cafeteria. This project will be on-going throughout the school year. The goal is to hear from all RAUC students on what they think about this project! Surveys will be distributed soon during extended Advisory to bring more delicious food options to the table. Student feedback will determine what new potential food items will be added to lunch options. If you have any questions or suggestions, please talk to a member of Student Government through Ms. Motto.
