Greetings from Julie Craven
Dear RAUC Families,
Aiming high requires an ideal to strive for. Seventh grade advisories took time last week to reflect on quotes by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Included in this newsletter are images of some of the quotes they chose to hang in the hallways for daily inspiration. See if any particularly resonate for you! My favorite is the education quote hanging over the exit (shown above).
As I visited classrooms on Friday, I heard moving discussions on what words can reveal about a person’s beliefs, along with statements of respect for the range of nations that families in our community have immigrated from. We reject the notion that people of one nation are more valued and valuable than those of others. We are grateful to have students from Haiti, El Salvador, and African nations such as Ethiopia, Eritrea, Ghana, Morocco, and Egypt, along with many other nations, enriching our community with their perspectives, experiences, traditions, and ideas. Our diversity is a daily source of joy.
In unity,
Julie Craven, Head of School

Calling All 6th Grade Parents (and any other willing volunteers)!
Our grade organizes the second school dance of the year, to be held this Friday 1/19 from 6-8PM. The dances are an important fundraising opportunity for Families of RAUC to fund enrichment activities including the big 8th grade Washington DC trip. Please help the 6th grade do its part by signing up to donate (1) goods to sell at the dance concession stand and (2) your time to set up, clean up, collect tickets, sell concessions or supervise the hallways during the dance. (Parents do not chaperone the actual dance itself, but you can get a fun view from the periphery if you volunteer your time for one of these jobs!)
Please use this to sign up >>
Thanks!
Your Families of RAUC 6th grade reps (Hayley & Danielle)

Peabody Museum
Sixth graders had lots of highlights from their January 9th field trip to the Peabody Museum. Many students enjoyed comparing the effectiveness of a range of neolithic tools to grind grain (pictured). This annual trip, jointly created by teachers, the History and Social Science Department, and the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology at Harvard University is a wonderful example of collaboration with our community partners to bring rich learning experiences to our students.
New Opportunities
All flyers and registration forms are available at RAUC. Students or families can contact Justin McNulty.
