RAUC

Greetings from Julie Craven

Dear RAUC Families,

February is National African American History Month. As the Library of Congress notes, “(This month) celebrates the contributions that African Americans have made to American history in their struggles for freedom and equality and deepens our understanding of our Nation's history.” Educators at RAUC and in Cambridge overall work hard to integrate the stories and contributions of African Americans into inclusive curriculum throughout the school year. That said, there are a wide range of resources that families might enjoy exploring with their students. This list is by no means exhaustive, and I welcome hearing about resources you value: African Americans (Biography.com); 10 Little Known Black History Facts; the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Peace,

Julie Craven, Head of School

Popsicle Sticks

French Project Materials Donations Welcomed!
The week of 2/5 and 2/13, 8th grade French students will be building dioramas of our ideal home. We would like shoe boxes or cardboard boxes that are a manageable size. A limited amount of materials like paper, popsicle sticks and fabric will be available in class for student use on a first come, first served basis. If your family has extra boxes, fabric, popsicle sticks, cotton balls or aluminum foil, we would love to take the donations! Help 8th grade French students make fabulous projects and recycle at the same time! Donations can be brought to the RAUC office. Thank you!

Boston Debate League

RAUC Debate Team Represented!
Our RAUC Debate team competed in the Boston Debate League Tournament at East Boston High School Saturday, February 4. Even though we only took home only one award (congrats to Coleman Smith-Rakoff!), our team displayed our amazing core values. They aimed high in their debate preparation, and demonstrated unity with their teammates-supporting and offering helpful tips. They showed compassion and respect towards their competitors (even making a few new friends). And finally, the team came away with good ideas when they reflected on how we can improve for our final tournament on 3/17! Shout out to Marilyn Rottersman for her commitment to providing this opportunity to RAUC students.

Unity Concert

Thursday’s Unity Concert RAUC-ed!
Huge shout out to music teachers Josh DeWitte, Patrick Wroge, and Brittany Phillips, and to all our student performers for a lovely evening of music. And thank you to all the families and staff who came to celebrate students’ musical accomplishments. Read on >>
