Greetings from Julie Craven
Dear RAUC Families,

When we started the year together at Back to School Night, you shared your hopes and dreams for your children. Next Thursday, May 17, is our culminating family engagement event, our Celebration of Learning. We changed the name from Night of Excellence because we wanted to highlight the learning journey.  New this year, each student is choosing work in each of their classes, along with a reflection on why they chose that piece. We hope to see you there to wrap up this year of learning, first at our community dinner at 5:30PM in the cafeteria, and then in the classrooms from 6-7PM.

A couple of other activities will happen on that night. We will have our first ever middle school book fair, with new and gently used books on sale in anticipation of summer reading. Sam Musher, the force behind the fair, would still love volunteers--you can sign up here: http://bit.ly/2qPRc47. Additionally, the district has created a family engagement online survey. We will have laptops set up at various locations so you can share your thoughts.

The Family Engagement Team reviewed the results of the Spring Learning Partners Conference survey. 67% of our families attended, an increase from the 65% in the Fall. We continue to strive for 100%, since your partnership with us matters! Overall, feedback was positive. Close to 100% of families believed the conferences met their needs, that teachers gave feedback specific to their child, and that the conference provided them with a concrete strategy to support their child’s learning. The vast majority of families believed the school is a welcoming place and either agreed or strongly agreed that teachers and the school communicate with them when there are academic or social emotional concerns and partnered with them to support their student’s social emotional well-being. That said, around 20% of our families were either neutral or a few disagreed that we communicate well in these areas, so that is clearly something to keep working on. Your feedback matters to us as we keep striving to best partner with you to support each student in the ways they need. We hope to see you next Thursday in celebration of a year of learning!

Best,

Julie Craven, Head of School

Band, Orchestra, and Chorus/Urban Legends Concerts RAUC-ed!
Huge shout out to our performing students as well as to Patrick Wroge (Band), Brittany Phillips (Orchestra), and Josh DeWitte (Chorus/Urban Legends) for delightful concerts last week. Our school is unusual in the high numbers of students participating in a performance group--over 3/4 of our student body! The concerts showcased the results of the hard work students and teachers have put in throughout the year.

HEALTH & WELLNESS TIP
Did you know? Openly talking to your kids about drugs and alcohol is one of the biggest protective factors they have against substance use and abuse. Conversations should allow you and your child to share your thoughts and opinions in a safe and collaborative space. Reach out to Ms. Boadu ([email protected]) or Mr. McNulty ([email protected]) if you have any questions about a tip or concerns about your student’s social emotional well-being.
