RAUC

Greetings from Julie Craven!
Dear RAUC Families,

Happy New Year! I hope you found smiles and relaxation whatever holidays you celebrated over break. It has been delightful to welcome students back and watch them reengage in their learning. Students are exploring scatter plots and proportional relationships, finalizing short stories, creating cell models, and exploring documents to determine if voting should be mandatory or not, to name just a few of things I see when I drop into classes. Make sure to use the learning previews to engage your student in conversations about what they are thinking about at school.

January is a busy month--look in the newsletter for the range of events going on and mark your calendars. I hope to see you at some if not all of these events!

Here’s to a great 2019!
Julie Craven, Head of School

School Feedback Session on Extending the School Day: January 10
All RAUC families are invited to the Peabody/RAUC Library THIS THURSDAY at 7:30AM to participate in a discussion about whether schools could be better with a longer school day. This is a feedback session where RAUC families can engage with CPSD Administrators and have their questions and concerns answered. At 6 hours long, Cambridge has one of the shortest school days in the state. The Superintendent is proposing to improve the educational experience of students in elementary and upper schools through better use of time and lengthening the school day. Community feedback will help to improve the proposal, which will then be presented to the Cambridge School Committee. More information about the proposal can be found here.

Join us for Courageous Conversations about Race on January 22
Tuesday, January 22 will be the first in our series of five evening conversations to discuss race and racial equity and how they impact teaching, learning, and family experiences at school. These conversations are hosted by RAUC with support of the Baldwin and Peabody communities. Please see attached flyer for more details. We hope to see you there! Please help us prepare by filling out the survey or return the form below to the school office (RAUC, Peabody, or Baldwin). Questions? Contact us by email or phone 617.771.5810. Facebook: RAUC Courageous Conversations.

Share your Stories about Food and Support the RAUC Musical
Every June, RAUC produces an original music that is partly written by the students. This year’s topic is food. Students hope to create a musical that tells the story of food in our community. They want to reflect the diversity of our community by weaving together stories around food and feasts. Please see the attached letter for more details! And please note, stories are welcome in any language--we can translate them!

RAUC Speaker Series for Parents of 6th - 9th Graders
