RAUC Unity Week is Happening!
Each year we break up the long period between February and April vacations with a week of daily dress-up themes so we can build unity by having some fun together. This year advisories voted on the theme days, which are as follows:
  • 3/25 - Multiple Monday (twins, triplets, quadruplets, quintuplets, sextuplets...)
  • 3/26 - Pajama Jam Tuesday
  • 3/27 - Character Wednesday (dress as a favorite book or movie character)
  • 3/28 - Sports Thursday (wear your favorite team or sport outfit)
  • 3/29 - Friday Blackout (dress in black)
New this year, the Charity Club is also sponsoring a donation drive. Here is their announcement of the event: The Charity Club is organizing a donation drive during Unity Week. There are fun activities going on this week. We also want to bring our community together around helping others. The donations will go to Y2Y, a youth run homeless shelter for other youth. This week, we will place boxes in each advisory and invite all students to donate socks, canned goods and toiletries (toothbrush, soap, deodorant, etc.) Each time a class places something in the box, we put a tally(point) under their advisory name. The advisory that has the most points at the end of the week will earn pizza. Members of the Charity Club will come by during the week to collect your donations.

Please Complete the Panorama Survey
Dear families, close to 50% (146 to be exact) Panorama surveys have been completed by RAUC families. Many of you completed them when you visited us for the Spring Learning Partners Conferences while others took them online via the link that the district emailed to families. You already gave us your feedback and we appreciate you! For families that didn’t complete the paper or online survey, please use this link to participate! We also have paper copies at school if you prefer. You can either mail it to the school or you or your student can drop it off in the office. We would love to hear from at least 2/3 of the school so make your voice heard and help us understand how we are doing! You can also reach out to Taraneh Ahmadi, Family Partnership Coordinator ([email protected]; 617.349.4060 x2041) if you have any questions, or just drop by the school and any of us can help you.

Calling all 8th Grade Families
Please donate time and goods to the last dance of the year! You can sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080c4fa4a828aa8-2018

Unity Week wraps up with the last RAUC dance of the year, sponsored by families of Grade 8 students. The dance is Friday, March 29 6-8PM in the RAUC cafeteria and is open only to the RAUC community. The organizer parent volunteers need help with food and drink donations, pre-dance set up, post-dance clean-up, as well as people to help sell pizza and supervise the hallways during the dance. Tickets are $5 and can be bought Wed-Fri at lunch or at the door. As always, all proceeds go directly to support school enrichment funds through FRAUC. If you'd like to send in money with your student on school days, please address it to Taraneh Ahmadi in a sealed envelope, with your name on it and drop off in the office. It will be handed to a FRAUC member. If you have any questions or comments, please let me know! We look forward to a wonderful school dance at RAUC!

Speaker Series
RAUC Speaker Series this Friday,
March 29 6-8PM -
Smartphones and Social Media: Hear the Real Deal, from Students Themselves
This series that we developed specifically for our RAUC families, is on to its 3rd event! If you are not scheduled to help out at the dance, please come join us. Even if you are scheduled to help, swing by when you get a chance. Parents from other schools are invited too! What is the talk really about? This event is a chance to hear from current high school students about the good and the bad of digital life in middle school. What rules did their families set about phone use? Do they think those rules should have been different, and why? What do they wish the adults in their lives had understood about technology? With only a couple of years' distance from middle school, these students are in the best position to help us understand what our students are going through and how we can support them. Come with questions! Bring a dish to share and enjoy a potluck dinner with other parents while conversing with our young and dynamic panel. It will run from 6-8PM in Room 211 (6th grade math). View the flyer here!

Food Pantry
RAUC Snack Pantry Needs Your Help!
The RAUC Student Snack Pantry needs your donations again! This page explains negative effects of hunger on children’s academic performance and behavior in school. At RAUC we are trying to eliminate hunger as a barrier in learning so that students can learn without distractions.

Here’s where we need your help:
Send in healthy, shelf stable and individual sized snacks for our students. Snack ideas include Granola bars, Nutrigrain bars, goldfish crackers, animal crackers etc.

You can drop them off at the office for Taraneh Ahmadi, RAUC’s Family Partnership Coordinator.

MCAS Update
One way we help students be more relaxed and prepared for the test is to run a practice test session, which happened in all grade last week. Since all tests are completed online, we want to make sure students are familiar with the technology tools available through the test. Part of the practice time included having each student doing a “scavenger hunt” where they got to seek out and experiment with the online tools. Ask your student if there were any tools they found particularly helpful. A reminder that MCAS dates are all posted on our RAUC calendar which can be found on the school website.
