Third Marking Period Coming to a Close
Grades close for this marking period on Friday, April 5. Progress reports will be available on Aspen on Friday, April 12. This is when you can see the grade your student has at the midway point in the second semester. The progress report grade can help you and your student know what they are doing well and where they need to focus to have a strong finish to the school year. As always, reports will be mailed home to families who don’t have access to the internet.

RAUC Basketball Tournament Update
Last Wednesday was day one of the Cambridge upper school basketball tournament.

The boys played hard and were unfortunately out-matched, falling 48-17 against a well-disciplined Putnam Ave team and ending their run for the city championship.

The girls however, played amazingly in sync and had a blowout win of 41-14 over their Putnam Ave opponent. The girls advanced to the city championship and will take on CSUS Wednesday 4/3/19 (3:15PM) at CRLS. Coach Taylor and Coach Moore are super proud of both teams and had a lot of fun at day one of the tournament. We are excited for the girls and hope that RAUC will represent at the championship by showing support with a large attendance and of course, BRINGING THE HYPE!

Charity ClubShout-outs!
Many people have been working hard to build unity at the school in a variety of ways. Shout outs to:
  • All the families, particularly the 8th grade families, who sponsored the final RAUC dance of the year! The lights, photo booth, and dj kept kids having fun!

  • The Charity Club (see photo above), who led a successful donation drive for the Y2Y youth shelter, and to all the students and families who donated items. We will be dropping them off at the shelter this week. So powerful to see students come together around compassionate action!
  • Taraneh Ahmadi and Sam Musher for organizing the final event in the Speaker Series--a panel of RAUC grads speaking about social media.
  • To Ms. Boadu, Ms. Lamour, and Ms. Motto for gathering student ideas for our daily themes during unity week--we are working to gather photos from the week that capture the mood! Lots of fun!
Final Call: Panorama Survey – Your Voice Matters!
If you haven’t taken the survey yet, please use this link to do so now! This district survey is a little long, but it will provide us feedback on what we are doing well and where we can grow. That information will be much more meaningful the more people we hear from. We also have paper copies in Amharic, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, Haitian Creole, Portuguese and Spanish at school if you prefer. Please let Taraneh Ahmadi, Family Partnership Coordinator ([email protected]; 617.349.4060 x2041) know if she should send one home with your student or mail it home. You can either mail it back to the school or you/your student can drop it off in the office. You can also just drop by the school and any of us can help you. Thank you to those who have filled out the survey at conferences or online!

Courageous Convos

This will be the 3rd of 5 conversations. We’ll be learning tools to build empathy and have the conversations planned for the final sessions. The last 2 dates for the series are as follows, same time and location:

Rising 7th & 8th Graders: Visual & Performing Arts Elective Options
At the end of 6th and 7th grade, students are given an opportunity to switch their music path or explore a new interest. While we encourage students to stick with a music path for three years so that they have an opportunity to see the impact of persistence and hard work, we recognize sometimes interests change. To this end, RAUC visual and performing arts teachers offer our rising 7th and 8th graders a few more options for music and, in 8th grade, art and drama. All students have been presented with the options and given the elective forms (rising 7th; rising 8th). They must be signed by a caregiver, as we also recognize families are partners in their student’s journey. We can’t guarantee we can accommodate everyone’s first choices, but we will do our best. Forms must be turned in by Friday, April 12. Please reach out to your student’s music teacher if you have any questions.
