Greetings from Julie Craven
Dear RAUC Families,

Happy May--our last full month at school! Monday also marked the beginning of the month of Ramadan. Ramadan Mubarak (Happy Ramadan) to those of you who observe it! For those who are not Muslim and are interested in understanding more about this month whose observance is one of the five pillars of Islam, you might enjoy looking over this document.

I wanted to update you on the Family Engagement Survey that people took to give us feedback. First of all, a huge thank you to all those who filled it out--168 of you to be exact, which means we are close to two-thirds of our families. We are looking forward to reflecting on the data and reporting back to you. This reflection will happen both through our Family Engagement Team and our School Council. Unfortunately the district is extending the date for taking the survey so we will not actually have access to the survey results until early to mid June, very possibly after the final meetings of the year for both of these groups. That means we will likely be reporting on the results in mid to late September. Thank you for your patience. And, if you still haven’t had a chance to take the survey, you still can here.

Here’s to a wonderful month!

Julie Craven, Head of School

Families: Sign Up for Your 8th Grader’s Portfolio Panel

This is year we are starting a new tradition--8th grade passage portfolios. Moving from 8th grade to high school is an important passage. RAUC 8th graders will demonstrate readiness for high school and tell the story of their own learning by creating “passage portfolios.” These are collections of work that students have chosen and reflected on, along with a letter introducing themselves as learners to their audience.

Each student will present their portfolio for 30 minutes to their family, advisor, and additional panelists.

Families should sign up for a time slot on the days scheduled for their advisor, using this link >>

8th Grade DC Trip
Another friendly reminder to get ALL paperwork into Mr. Oliveira and our school nurse Ms. Barandao by May 24 at the latest. Please reach out to Mr. Oliveira ([email protected]) and Ms. Barandao ([email protected]) with any questions. No student will be able to attend the trip without all paperwork turned in.

8th Grade Gowns for Graduation
You should have received an email from Ms. Linette about graduation caps and gowns. She has begun measuring student height so we can order gowns. They are $20 and money or checks (made out to Rindge Ave Student Agency) can be brought to Ms. Linette. Please note that we have a small supply of gowns gifted to us from previous graduates--you can reach out to Ms. Linette ([email protected] or 617-349-4060) or Ms. Ahmadi ([email protected] or 617-349-4060 x2041) if you would prefer to borrow one of those gowns instead of purchasing your own. And, after 8th grade graduation on Monday June 17, please consider donating your student’s cap and gown so we can continue to increase our supply for future years!
