Greetings from Julie Craven

Dear RAUC Families,

I wanted to express gratitude for the messages of support from the community in light of my step daughter’s sudden death. My husband and I are deeply touched. You should also know that students have been lovely--I received hugs and smiles and inquiries into how I was doing from them yesterday when I greeted folks in the morning. I am reminded how strong communities can hold both joy and sadness simultaneously. Each of us faces our own challenges, whether they are public or not. May this community be a source of comfort for everyone.

Peace,

Julie Craven, Head of School

Social-Emotional Tip of the Week

Giving your student certain responsibilities and then showing appreciation for a job well done is a good way to foster your student’s self esteem. Try giving them age-appropriate tasks and compliment them when they complete them!

RAUC 7th Grade Families - Help Support the Dance!

7th grade organizes the first RAUC school dance of the year. All proceeds go directly to school enrichment funds through FRAUC. Please help the 7th grade do its part by signing up to donate:
–goods to sell at the dance concession stand
–your time to set up, clean up, collect tickets, sell concessions or supervise the hallways during the dance.

(Parents do not chaperone the actual dance itself, but you can get a fun view from the periphery if you volunteer your time for one of these jobs!)

RAUC's Parent Speaker Series: Destigmatizing Mental Health Concerns in Youth

Last year, we started offering a Parent Speaker Series for our RAUC families that coincided with the school dances. The idea has been to offer parents and guardians a way to meet, build community and also learn something valuable in a group setting. The topics have intentionally been geared towards parents of middle schoolers; Teen mental health, healthy and resilient relationships among teenagers and most recently, cell phones and social media. For the first talk this year, we are very excited to welcome Dr. Dana Sarvey from Mclean Hospital to help with ‘Destigmatizing Mental Health Concerns in Youth’. Please join us upstairs in the health room after dropping your child off at the dance. We hope to eat dinner before/during the event with the talk starting promptly at 6:30 PM. Please bring a food item to share! October 25 from 6-8PM in the Health Room. See the flyer attached for more details! Please contact Taraneh Ahmadi ([email protected]) if you have any questions.

Calling All Families: Help Support the DC Trip Fundraising Drive

We are the only upper school in Cambridge that sends 8th graders to Washington DC.  The trip is four days and three nights. It is the perfect capstone to the 8th grade civics course and to the RAUC experience.  Our community has also made a commitment: we all go or no one goes. To support that goal, we need to raise $25,000 to ensure ALL 8th graders can attend the DC trip regardless of financial reality.

  • ALL 8th grade families, please use social media to widely share this fundraising link (http://bit.ly/2LTjQfE) with your extended network of family, friends, and colleagues.
  • You can also paste this link onto social media: http://bit.ly/2LTjQfE
  • 6th and 7th grade families: please consider joining into this community fundraising effort. A successful fundraising drive allows Families of Rindge Avenue to maintain the financial cushion we need to be able to offer this trip in upcoming years.
  • October is our big fundraising push--let’s work together to reach our goal!
  • NOTE:  You do not need a PayPal account to use this webpage.  You can “checkout” and it will give you a credit card option--have faith!?
  • You may also donate directly to Families of RAUC on their website:  www.frauc.org.

Taste Tests Coming to RAUC!

Tasty Choices is back and better than ever in the Cambridge Public Schools! This program uses taste tests to introduce healthy recipes from around the world in the comfort of our school cafeterias. Our first taste test will feature Azifa, an Ethiopian lentil salad. We will hold the taste test on Wednesday, October 23, 2019. As usual, we will not serve anyone sitting at “allergy free” tables in the cafeteria or any student with a food allergy over concern for cross contamination (at the school nurse’s discretion). The program will coordinate with School Nurse Anita Barandao and cafeteria staff prior to the taste test to ensure every child with a food allergy is identified. Azifa ingredients include: lentils, mild green chili peppers, tomatoes, red onions, black pepper, ginger powder, dijon mustard, limes, olive or canola oil. View the flyer attached!
