Attendance

  • At our last community meeting, several families expressed concerns about changing advisory to the afternoon. While we’re unable to switch this time, in light of your concerns, we will be taking attendance (in addition to class attendance) during the first 1st period class in the morning and during advisory.
  • NOTE: If you know your student will have to be absent for a period of time or for the whole day, please follow the same protocol for reporting absences as before: please call the school (617.349.4060) and give the date(s), and anticipated length of absence.

Changes to PE and Health classes

  • In case you missed this in the email on Friday: Please be advised that due to recent staffing changes, we are making an adjustment to our PE and Health classes.
    • The PE teacher will teach only in-person classes and the Health teacher will teach only remote classes. That means that in-person students will receive two 5 week cycles of PE, while remote students will receive two 5 week cycles of Health.
    • This will allow our in-person students to be taught by in-person staff instead of having to sit and face a computer while the teacher “beams in” instruction. Mr Moore and Mr McNulty will be still be teaching PE and Health.
  • Thank you for your understanding as we adjust to new information in ways that we believe best serve students and staff.
  • All students will continue to have Art for one five week cycle.

In-person families COVID-19 Testing forms

If you would like your student to participate in weekly COVID-19 testing, please complete the COVID-19 testing form. Although this weekly testing is not required, we highly encourage students to participate because it can help keep our whole community safe. You can fill the form in two different ways:

  1. Online at this https://secure1.cpsd.us/form_consent/.
  2. Paper
    • Have your student pick up a paper copy at school (ask their teacher or go to the the front office), bring it home, sign and bring back
    • Print a PDF of consent form yourself and drop it off at the school or have your student give it to their teacher

Questions? Please check out this district FAQ page or email Family Liaison Julia Ho.

RAUC Staff Feel the Love -
Thank you FRAUC!

Staff Appreciation
Several weeks ago, Families of RAUC (FRAUC) delivered cards, appreciation signs, and goodies for our RAUC staff as they came back to the school to prepare for more students coming back in-person. Many of our staff felt the care and love. A special thank you to the many students and families who helped create beautiful cards and signs and FRAUC for sponsoring and coordinating this thoughtful event!

RAUC TV Season 2 Episode 3

RAUC TV Season 2 Episode 3
Episode 3 of RAUC TV is an entirely sixth grade affair this time, but now kids have expanded their creativity to include original music as well as videos. Once again, all clips are under 3 minutes long, and students are hard at work on episode 4 to wrap up season 2 (aka, the second round of clubs). If your student is interested in making movies for season 3, we'll continue to meet Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3 on the magical zoom box.

Social/Emotional Well-being--Tip of the Week

“Every child has his or her own unique talents and abilities. Whether in academics, athletics, or interpersonal relationships, resist the urge to compare your child to friends or siblings. Try focusing on what makes them unique and compliment them on those traits!”

National Nutrition Month:
Lower Cost Healthy Eating!

Did you know that canned fruits, vegetables, and beans are just as healthy as fresh ones? Did you know that frozen fruits and vegetables are good for you, too? Canned and frozen foods are just as good for our bodies, taste great and last longer so you don’t have to worry about them going bad and wasting money! Buy canned vegetables that are low-sodium or have no added salt and canned fruits in light syrup or water for the healthiest options. Buy frozen fruits with no added sugars. Buy frozen vegetables that aren’t in sauces, which are likely to be high in salt and saturated fats. From your friends at Cambridge in Motion, a program of the Cambridge Public Health Department, in collaboration with CPS Food & Nutrition Services.

– Visit Central Square’s NEW low cost, non-profit grocery store The Daily Table where customers save an average of 30% on groceries. Everything in the store is SNAP eligible. Customers paying with SNAP get an additional 50% off fresh produce through the Double Up Food Bucks Program, up to $10/day.
– Food Resources for Cambridge Residents (pantries, community meals, food box delivery options, school meals, meals on wheels, etc.) in EnglishSpanishPortugueseHaitian CreoleAmharic, and Mandarin.
