Schedule Next Year

CalendarThis past year, while the pandemic brought many challenges, it also provided an opportunity to innovate and try new things with our schedule, including adding more opportunities for student choice through our literacy and STEM blocks. Next year, we hope to continue building off of some of the insights we gained this past year. We will be sharing more details about the schedule in the fall once it is finalized, but here are some general things you can expect:

  • Each grade level will run a slightly different version of the schedule
  • There will be at least one extended block for each core academic class
    • Lunch/recess will be longer than before the pandemic (prior to the pandemic, we had a 30-minute lunch block)
  • We will continue to have Advisory (a block focused on social-emotional learning) every morning.
  • The length of the advisory class will differ depending on the day of the week.
  • We will continue to offer Literacy and STEM block classes.
  • Students will continue to have choice for many specialist classes (foreign language, music, Art/Theater Arts in Gr. 8)

Given the unique circumstances of this past year, we did not have the capacity to engage in the same process of gathering feedback systematically from families and students as we would in a normal year. Decisions regarding the schedule were still informed as much as possible by what we had heard from students and families throughout this past year. And this is Phase 1, we will gather feedback from families and students next year as we continue to create a schedule that best aligns with our vision.

Fun at Field Day

Yesterday morning at our field day, it was lovely to see so much of our whole community, including both our remote and in-person students, come together!  A huge shout-out to Ms. Marilyn, Mr. Moore, our current student government and the grade 8 students for planning and leading many fun activities like tug-of-war, capture the flag, water balloon toss, and more!
