New COVID Testing Plans
The district sent out communication about the new testing plans before the break. Here are the key points:
- Weekly pool testing will happen on Mondays and Tuesdays for all students with consent.
- Schools are not doing contact tracing anymore.
- This means that we will not send close contact letters anymore.
- Your student has to quarantine for 5 days if they’re a close contact outside of school and…
- They’re not fully vaccinated OR
- Their 2nd shot was more than 5 months ago and they have not gotten a booster
- There is no test and stay option.
IF you have opted- in for your student to receive free at-home tests, your student will…
- Receive a test kit with two tests every two weeks starting this week.
- Test at home on Friday mornings before coming to school.
As always, notify the school if your student tests positive. Please keep your student home if they are experiencing any covid symptoms–or are sick in any way!
How to Talk to Kids About the Ukraine Invasion
Students are often aware of the news even when we think they are not. At school, we have checked in with students in advisory to see what is on their minds. Social studies teachers are also giving students opportunities to learn and to process what they are hearing. These are ongoing conversations. For families, here are some tips for how to engage with your student in age appropriate ways. 5 ways to talk to children about conflict:
- Make time and listen when your child wants to talk
- Tailor the conversation to the child
- Validate their feelings
- Reassure them that adults all over the world are working hard to resolve this
- Give them a practical way to help

RAUC Students RAUCing Technology!
6th grader Jeremy Nohrnberg was randomly selected as the winner for the 6-8 submission to the CSEd Week Student Contest.
RAUC Students Explore 3-D Printing:
- A small group of 7th graders visited the Hive, a new makerspace at the Cambridge Public Library, before February break.
- Students used TinkerCAD software to design their own fidget cubes with customized textured sides. Then they watched the designs print on the Hive’s 3D printer!
- The Hive is open to the Cambridge community for 3D printing, laser cutting, video and audio recording, and more.
- We are grateful that we were invited to bring a small group to explore this resource and are delighted that it is now available to all!
