News on RAUC Music Program

We have two announcements of upcoming changes.

  • Brittany Phillips First, Josh DeWitte, long-time RAUC/Peabody music, chorus and Urban Legends teacher, has resigned from Cambridge. He has written a farewell and thank you letter to the community–please see below. Mr. DeWitte brought joy to all of us as he guided students in their music journey. We will miss him and wish him well.
  • Second, Orchestra teacher Brittany Phillips (see picture on right) will be on maternity leave next year. We are delighted for the joyful journey she and her husband are embarking on.
  • We will be seeking family and student involvement on the interview committees. You are welcome to let Ms. Craven know if you are interested.
    • If you know of qualified candidates, please invite them to apply!

Message from Mr. DeWitte

Josh DeWitteDear Peabody & RAUC community,

I am writing to say goodbye and thank you. It has been my privilege to teach for thirteen years in the Peabody & RAUC community, during which time I have been the beneficiary of so many gifts. This city still feels like a home to me, and it is possible I may return home in the near future, provided Cambridge will have me back. But for now, for a little while at least, I am continuing my hiatus from what I know, to try something new. My wife, Mary, and I will remain abroad in South Korea for at least another year, after which time we may teach and travel elsewhere. Whether this is goodbye forever or just for a few years, I owe so many of you my sincere thanks for enriching my life and my teaching. Your collegiality, friendship, mentorship, and leadership, and the ways in which many of you have helped me grow, remain with me. I hope you continue to make beautiful music.

Sincerely,
Josh DeWitte

Laughter and fun in Advisories

As you know, a central goal of our advisory program is to strengthen student sense of welcome and belonging. We also see advisory as a bridge between home and school–a chance to be personally greeted and to connect with peers and teachers as a whole human being before heading into the rigors of the learning day.

Here are some pictures to give you a window into some of the ways staff and students are having fun in advisory!Advisories
6th grade advisories compete in a March Madness “trashketball” competition!
Advisories
7th graders in Ms. Laws & Ms. Gonzalez’s advisory enjoy some karaoke!
AdvisoriesAdvisories
Every Friday, 8th grade advisories compete against one another in a winter advisory tournament. In this game, whichever student grabs the ball first after receiving a “pulse” from their group wins.
