Equity Update

Our community is a beautiful mosaic of people with different racial, ethnic, faith and gender identities, to name a few. At RAUC, we believe an important part of equity work is for each of us to take responsibility to educate ourselves about identities different than our own. That education will look differently for each of us.

This past month, we had the gift of several events that helped with our community’s education. Here are some links to information and resources in case you missed them!

  • Community Iftar‘Understanding Islam’ from North Cambridge Courageous Conversations
  • Trans Day of Visibility March 31
    • Check out some photos below from around our school.
    • You can read more about this day here.

7th graders design experiments for MIT engineers and scientists

7th graders design experiments for MIT engineers and scientistsThis past month, seventh grade scholar scientists at RAUC and another school designed experiments and created proposals for MIT engineers and scientists. The best experiment will be taken onto a Zero gravity flight and be filmed in virtual reality.

The scientists at MIT were pleased with “so many fantastic experiments” and how our students “did a really great job putting together their proposals.” RAUC scientists took 4 out of the five finalist spots!

RAUC winning experiments included:

  • Zero Gravity: Zero Reaction by Conrad Kuzmick & team
  • Gravity in Groups by Dor Holman and Lianne Mansour
  • Mix It Up! Chemical Reactions in Zero G by Imogene Goode and Talia Livny
  • Zero Flow: A Study of Materials in Zero G by Marko Vuskan and Nithamedin Hassen
  • Honorable Mention: Kinetic Space

They must now build their experiment for final judging by former NASA Astronaut Jeff Hoffman. We look forward to the final decision and the class viewing in virtual reality in late May! Congratulations to all our seventh grade scholar scientists who worked hard on their proposals! Shout out to 7th grade science teacher Jay Mahoney who is inspiring our budding scientists!

RAUC students help welcome future 6th graders!

Future 6th Graders
Last Wednesday, 5th graders from Baldwin and Peabody joined us at RAUC for a music and world language showcase. As you know, students choose their preference for music and world language for 6th grade. To help fifth graders make their choice, RAUC students performed music and shared about their experiences in French and Spanish classes. They were so clear and talented that they made the 5th graders want to choose everything. We’re so proud of our RAUC students’ talent, enthusiasm and their commitment to our future community.
