Congratulations to 7th grader Siroun Johnson, who won the top prize at
the Massachusetts Middle School Science & Engineering Fair on
Saturday, June 3rd, in Worcester.
Siroun is a student at the Amigos School and this year she learned to program in Python and applied that knowledge to
control a robotic arm to draw different figures. The name of her project
was "
Algorithm for Accurate Control of Low-Cost Joint-Based Robots."
During this process, Siroun was mentored by Lujing Cen, a computer science major at MIT and Hannah Sevian, a chemistry professor at UMASS
Boston. Siroun expanded her knowledge of coding at The Flagship
Clubhouse at the Museum of Science, which provides access to the latest
technology, so youth can explore their own ideas and develop new skills.
We are all so proud of her hard work and amazing accomplishments.
