Fred Fantini

Dear CPS Community:

We hope this finds you well. Yesterday, School Committee Member Fred Fantini announced his retirement after an incredible 40 years of service.

Member Fantini is a lifelong Cambridge resident and attended CPS. Elected in 1981 to the School Committee, he has served alongside 15 mayors and seven Superintendents. During his 40-year tenure, Member Fantini has brought a unique perspective and unparalleled passion in service to CPS and the City of Cambridge. We deeply admire his commitment to ensuring our students have the best possible education.

Member Fantini’s legacy will impact our students and educators for generations. Along with many accomplishments, he created a program with Lesley University that provides paraprofessionals the opportunity to get their bachelor’s and master’s degree at no cost. Additionally, Member Fantini collaborated with Mayor Siddiqui and supported the district in partnering with Lesley University to secure the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s early college designation for the district.

Member Fantini is a generous, thoughtful, and committed member of our community. His dedication to improving students’ and families’ lives has inspired all of those who have had the privilege of serving alongside him.

Member Fantini intends to serve out the remainder of his term, which ends in January with the swearing-in of the new School Committee members. We will miss working with and learning from his rich experience. We wish him the very best in retirement.

With Gratitude,

Sumbul Siddiqui, Esq.
Mayor, City of Cambridge
Chair, Cambridge School Committee
